Retail & consumer brands

Every price in the leaflet, checked before it goes to print.

Routario reads each leaflet or catalogue proof, pairs every price tile with its row in your price table, recomputes the discount, pack size and unit price, and sends back what's wrong — ordered by severity, each with a crop of the tile. Your team decides every fix.

What goes wrong today

Hundreds of prices, one afternoon, two tired proofreaders.

A weekly leaflet carries hundreds of prices, each with a regular price, a promotional price, a pack size, a unit price and a badge. They are proofed by hand, against a table that is itself still changing, hours before the print deadline.

The arithmetic is where it slips.

The price is right, but the unit price was calculated for last week's pack size — or the "−30 %" badge no longer matches the two prices beside it.

Sometimes the table is wrong, not the leaflet.

Errors in the source price table flow straight into print. Proofing only the layout against the table never catches them.

Discount claims are regulated.

Consumer authorities check that advertised discounts and unit prices are honest. In Czechia alone, misleading discount and reference-price claims drew 451 final fines worth CZK 83 million between 2023 and mid-2026.

What we find

100 published issues, recalculated.

We recalculated every unit price we could in 100 leaflet and catalogue issues that nine retailers in Czechia, Slovakia and Poland published between January 2025 and September 2026, from grocery and drugstore to DIY. Every error was confirmed by eye on a crop of the tile. No retailer is named here.

DIY & home improvement6.1%

wrong: 47 of 772, from 0% to 10.5% by edition

Grocery: rare, but in almost every chain

It ranges from one wrong unit price every five issues to one or two in every issue, depending on the chain. A clean issue is not evidence of a clean process — only checking every price shows which weeks slipped.

DIY: the same mistakes, repeated

A bonus pack such as 15 + 3 kg divided by the base 15 kg. A price per litre printed on paint sold by the kilogram. A unit price left at the old price for months after the price changed. Each is a process error that recurs until someone catches it.

How we count. Wrong printed unit prices, divided by the unit prices we could recalculate from the printed price and pack. Tiles without a unit price, "from" prices, bundles and unreadable tiles are left out. Discount badges are checked too, but they are counted separately.

How the Job runs

One e-mail in, one e-mail back.

1

Send the proof and the table

The studio or marketing team e-mails the leaflet PDF and the price table to one address — or uploads them in Routario. Nobody has to learn a new system.

2

Every tile is read and paired

Routario reads each price tile on every page and pairs it with its row in the table, by product code or name.

3

The numbers are recomputed

Promotional and regular price, pack size, unit price, the discount badge, availability markers, and the products that must appear but don't.

4

Findings go to the right owner

"The leaflet is wrong" goes to the studio. "Your table is wrong" goes to the category team. Each finding comes with a crop of the tile.

5

People decide the fixes

The reply e-mail lists findings by severity and links to a page-by-page view. Editorial choices stay with your team; every proofing round is logged.

What the team sees

A whole edition, checked tile by tile.

A leaflet page checked tile by tile: a unit price calculated for the wrong pack size is flagged

Every tile on every page is listed with its result. The flagged one is shown in place on the page, with the printed values next to what they should be.

In operation

The last step before print.

At a regional grocery group publishing three weekly leaflet brands, the marketing team now runs this check as the final step before each leaflet goes to print, and uploads new editions themselves. Every price that could be recomputed is checked, every flagged unit price is confirmed on a crop of the tile, and errors in the group's own price table are reported separately from errors in the layout.

A toy-retail chain uses the same Job to proof its seasonal catalogue against the master price list — four prices per product, plus codes and names — with findings delivered as comments in the PDF the studio already works in.

What Routario does

  • Reads every tile on every page, including prices set as images.
  • Pairs tiles with table rows and recomputes discounts, pack sizes and unit prices.
  • Separates layout errors from table errors, and sends each to its owner.
  • Logs every proofing round, so you can see what was caught, when, and what changed.

What your team decides

  • Every correction. A finding can be marked intended — a deliberate rounding or a promotional exception — with a reason.
  • Sign-off for print. The check informs your proofreader; it doesn't replace their signature.

Try the first equation

"Cost of one printed error" is yours to define: a corrective notice, price honoured at the shelf, a customer complaint, staff time — and the exposure if a claim is questioned.

—correction cost per year that checking before print could avoid

First implementation

Start with a leaflet you've already published.

We run the check on one or two of your recent editions first. You see what it finds — or that you're already in good shape — before deciding anything.

What we need to start

  • Two or three recent leaflet PDFs and the price tables they were built from.
  • The rules you proof against — how badges, unit prices and "while stocks last" markers should read.
  • One owner in marketing or category management, and the studio contact.

Not needed: a PIM integration, access to your ERP, or changes to how the studio works.

The first weeks

1
Back-check

Your published editions checked; every finding verified on a crop.

2
Live on the next edition

Proofs e-mailed in before print; findings back to the studio and the category team.

3
Review together

Within about two weeks: what it caught, what it missed that your proofreader caught, and whether to continue.

Send us one of your recent leaflets.

We can run the check on a published edition before we ever talk about a pilot — so the first conversation starts from what we found, not from a demo.

We reply within one business day, usually with two or three questions and a suggestion for the first step.
